Where else has WT slammed higher education?
by kristyann ini know that i have not been on this discussion forum for quite a long time, and to anyone that might have messaged me, i'm sorry if i didn't get back to you and i will still try to.
i kept very busy with school, and then after my finals i had so much going on with family members visiting from out of town for christmas, new year's and a couple of birthdays in the family.
i hope everyone had a great christmas and i was hoping that you could help me out with something.. i am trying to collect as many articles and publications from the watchtower society that frown upon college and higher education as possible (don't ask why, it's just a little personal project of mine).

I’ve posted this quote before on this forum but who can find anything they’re looking for here buried in almost 5000 pages of topics. This is one of my favorite WBTS quotes regarding higher education.
Many schools now have student counselors who encourage one to pursue higher education after high school, to pursue a career with a future in this system of things. Do not be influenced by them. Do not let them "brainwash" you with the Devil's propaganda to get ahead, to make something of yourself in this world. The world has very little time left! Any "future" this world offers is no future! ... Make pioneer service, the fulltime ministry, with the possibility of Bethel or missionary service your goal. This is a life that offers an everlasting future!- The Watchtower, March 15, 1969

Did you criticise/expose the WTS after leaving?
by greendawn inafter leaving the jws as df/ed or disass/ed were you willing to expose them for what they are to others, or were you unwilling to do so because you still felt respect for them for being the "truth"?

This is the very reason that the WBTS warns the rank-n-file JDub to avoid apostates and paints them as pure evil. The WBTS knows that ex-JDubs or apostates are aware of their lies and will feel a moral obligation to inform others regarding the dangers of this cult. Therefore they must vilify us and condem us to protect themselves. All in the name of almighty God! Now that takes balls my friends.

Mother violates privacy and gets burned!
by Darth Yhwh ini started a word document in early october regarding the failed predictions of the wbts.
i titled it as false prophets and my intent was to have a resource for information regarding wbts publications that verified that they claimed the end of the world was happening on such and such date and they knew about it because of their privileged status of having an open frequency with the almighty itself.
the document was basically a cut and paste from the quotes website with a little commentary from myself in-between biblical and wbts quotes.

I’m sorry to hear about your relationship with your mother Finally-Free. It never ceases to amaze me just how many families have been destroyed by the WBTS. Thanks for your answers to your questions. Id like every one to post their own personal answers to these questions as if they had come from their own family.
Next time anybody gets in your face about this issue, ask them how long it would take them to get over losing a child - a divorce - infidelity - being scammed out of your life savings ...
Because in a spiritual way, all these things have happened to you.Excellent point and well said GentlyFeral. I’ve struggled to put into words the feelings and emotions regarding my reasoning for posting on this forum. You’ve pretty much summed it up.

What Was I Agreeing to at my Baptism, Anyway?
by prophecor ini was so awash with emotion during the day of my being baptised, i think i would've answered yes to having a root canal.
what was it i was swearing my allegiance to on that ominous day?
are there a standard set of questions that they ask all baptismal candidates at these cermonial offerings?
-
Darth Yhwh
I know some that view the baptism that they recieved as invalid and an acceptance of the JW ideaology. I understand their view. For me though, my baptism was between me and my creator. I was baptized because I believed in the principle of using the Bible as the guide to your life, accepting Jesus and our Heavenly father. To me, that dedication was between me and God, not a dedication to an organization run by men.
Well said Drew. I have thought this same thing recently. Who are the WBTS, elders at a KH, or any other rank-n-file JDdub to come between a commitment one makes to their creator?

Classic passive-aggressive dub behavior. They cannot win on the merits of their own belief system so they try the 'guilty' treatment.
Question: Why in the blue blazes don't you have your computer set up with a password protected administrator account and a password protected screensaver option?
Last time I trusted someone to use my computer, they inadvertently downloaded a bouncer virus with a shareware application that almost destroyed my system... I lost two years worth of irreplaceable family photos.
I also back my system up weekly now...Jean, as I mentioned earlier I had thought about pass wording the file. My mother has used my computer in the past while watching the kids and I don’t have a problem with that. I suppose that in the back of my mind somewhere I realized that this possibility existed and I just didn’t care if it happened.
You’re absolutely right though about security and backing up information. I’ve also lost many photos of my precious children due to lack of backing up. Perhaps I’ll back up photos tonight, I’m past due.
These are the exact phrases my JW parents use to defend that malarkey. Usually with the thrown in, "Don't try to steal my faith!"
It's amazing to see them spouting WBTS sound bites.I agree LDH, talking to a JDub is like getting that prerecorded message on the telephone when you dial a non existent number. The beauty of my current situation is that there is no guilt factor for me. Had she not violated my privacy she wouldn’t be enduring the emotional turmoil that she is currently.
Oddly, she doesn't apply any of the things she wrote to herself or the org she belongs to. Not oddly, that should be, sadly. Sorry.
On one hand I feel like saying, next time you should leave something really juicy up for her to get into like the UN documents, Silentlambs, etc... but, on the other hand it would probably just make things worse.
Do you worry about leaving your kids alone with her?Carla, trust me the info that I had on this two or three page document is enough to get any JDub shaking for fear of inviting demons into their home by reading apostate literature. I suspect that it will be some weeks before I speak to her again unless I put forth an effort. What makes this situation even more interesting is that I think there’s and upcoming WT regarding the dangers of apostates. She’ll be thinking about me I’m sure through the entire study article.
My mother is one of the few that I can trust with my children. She is great with the kids and really knows how to handle them. I used to worry about her trying to indoctrinate them with WBTS BS but we had a talk about that over the summer and I think she realizes that if she tries to preach I’ll limit her visitation.
Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

My conversation with an elder
by Dune inwell this happened to me a few weeks ago, but i chose to post it later because i'm paranoid.
anyway, i was riding in field service with an elder and our conversation turned to apostasy.
well, he turned it to apostasy because he usually dominates 99% of the conversations we have.but i digress, this is how our conversation went.

Heres just a few for you to get you started.
41) Since the time of Ussher intensive study of Bible chronology has been carried on. In this twentieth century an independent study has been carried on that does not blindly follow some traditional chronological calculations of Christendom, and the published timetable resulting from this independent study gives the date of man's creation as 4026 B.C.E. According to this trustworthy Bible chronology six thousand years from man's creation will end in 1975, and the seventh period of a thousand years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975 C.E. 42) So six thousand years of man's existence on earth will soon be up, yes, within this generation. Jehovah God is timeless, as it is written in Psalm 90:1, 2: "O Jehovah, you yourself have proved to be a real dwelling for us during generation after generation. Before the mountains themselves were born, or you proceeded to bring forth as with labor pains the earth and the productive land, even from time indefinite to time indefinite you are God." So from the standpoint of Jehovah God these passing six thousand years of man's existence are but as six days of twenty-four hours, for this same psalm (verses 3, 4) goes on to say: "You make mortal man go back to crushed matter, and you say: 'Go back, you sons of men.' For a thousand years are in your eyes but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch during the night." So in not many years within our own generation we are reaching what Jehovah God could view as the seventh day of man's existence. 43) How appropriate it would be for Jehovah God to make of this coming seventh period of a thousand years a sabbath period of rest and release, a great Jubilee sabbath for the proclaiming of liberty throughout the earth to all its inhabitants! This would be most timely for mankind. It would also be most fitting on God's part, for, remember, mankind has yet ahead of it what the last book of the Holy Bible speaks of as the reign of Jesus Christ over earth for a thousand years, the millennial reign of Christ. Prophetically Jesus Christ, when on earth nineteen centuries ago, said concerning himself: "For Lord of the sabbath is what the Son of man is." (Matthew 12: 8). It would not be by mere chance or accident but would be according to the loving purpose of Jehovah God for the reign of Jesus Christ, the 'Lord of the Sabbath,' to run parallel with the seventh millennium of man's existence.—Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God (book) 1966 pp. 26-30
6,000 Years Completed in 1975 … In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975… Hence, the fact that we are nearing the end of the first 6,000 years of man's existence is of great significance. Does God's rest day parallel the time man has been on earth since his creation? Apparently so. From the most reliable investigations of Bible chronology, harmonizing with many accepted dates of secular history, we find that Adam was created in the autumn of the year 4026 B.C.E. Sometime in that same year Eve could well have been created, directly after which God's rest day commenced … There is another chronological indication that we are rapidly nearing the closing time for this wicked system of things. It is the fact that shortly, according to reliable Bible chronology, 6,000 years of human history will come to an end. After six thousand years of toil and bondage to sin, sickness, death and Satan, mankind is due to enjoy a rest and is in dire need of a rest. (Heb. 4:1-11) Hence, the fact that we are nearing the end of the first 6,000 years of man's existence is of great significance. In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975. This is worthy of notice, particularly in view of the fact that the 'last days' began in 1914, and that the physical facts of our day in fulfillment of prophecy mark this as the last generation of this wicked world. So we can expect the immediate future to be filled with thrilling events for those who rest their faith in God and his promises. It means that within relatively few years we will witness the fulfillment of the remaining prophecies that have to do with the 'time of the end.—Awake! October 8 1966
If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling… True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that soon will pass away? Or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order? Awake! May 22 1969

Dune, Im not sure exactly what your situation is but it would have been impossible for me to maintain the composure that you did in that situation. That elder would have been jumbing out of the car praying to Jehovah for forgivness for sharing the same O2 as an apostate. LOL

Beards are evil, but do you know why?
by free2beme inas a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.
when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.
" why was this a form of rebellion?

I was never able to grow a beard while an active JDub. Now I really get a kick out of the fact that any JDub that lays eyes on me weather they know me or not will catigorize me as worldly based on my facial hair. Isn't that hilarious?
